Role and Approach
How I work
Experience and Approach
I bring a background in support work, mentoring and community engagement to my role as Family Navigator.
I’ve supported people living with mental health conditions and complex physical health needs, including working alongside GPs and care teams. I’ve also helped people access education opportunities and community resources.
I consider each person within the wider picture of their life: their strengths, relationships, responsibilities and what matters to them. When several needs overlap, I bring practical direction while respecting each person’s choices.
I take time to understand what is already working, alongside what feels difficult. Your knowledge, interests and abilities matter, as do the demands on your time and energy.
My focus is on meaningful goals that fit your circumstances.
I’ve worked alongside people managing mental health conditions, chronic illness and less visible health concerns.
This includes collaborating with GPs and care teams, with attention to the practical challenges people face when accessing support.
I respect the different ways people think, communicate and learn, including those of neurodivergent people.
I listen to each person’s perspective and what works for them. You do not need to know all the terminology or have everything clearly explained before we meet.
My experience includes supporting people when their current education setting is not meeting their needs, and connecting people with community resources.
I value opportunities that build on someone’s interests and strengths, while taking account of the barriers they face.
My work in libraries, community engagement and support work has brought me into contact with people of different ages, cultures and abilities.
I enjoy hearing people’s stories and learning what matters to them. I bring that curiosity and respect to my work with individuals and families.
A Little More About Fiona
I’ve taught English to families across generations, worked alongside an Elder to create a Noongar language program, and helped bring communities together through Lunar New Year and NAIDOC Week celebrations. Helping people connect, share their knowledge and take part in community life is what I value most.
After more than 20 years working in libraries and several years in support work, I still love discovering a different perspective through someone’s story. Connection, sharing and learning from each other shape how I approach both life and work.
I’m a cosy gamer and a big Animal Crossing fan. Spotting something from the game in real life always makes me smile. I also enjoy Mario Kart. I bags Yoshi!
